Many EVs also automatically reduce power draw and limit non-essential systems like climate control as the battery gets critically low, stretching the last few kilometres of range specifically so you can reach a charger or a safe place to stop. Built-in navigation on most EVs will also reroute you to the nearest compatible charging station if your route risks running the battery down.

A small number of premium roadside providers internationally carry portable DC fast-charging units that can add enough range at the roadside to reach a station under the vehicle’s own power. This isn’t standard or widely available across Canada today, so the realistic expectation for most drivers is a flatbed tow to the nearest charger rather than an on-the-spot boost.
