What Affects How Far an EV Can Travel?

Every EV sold in Canada carries an official range rating from Natural Resources Canada, and it’s a useful starting point for comparing models. It is not, however, a number you’ll see on your dash every day. Real-world range moves up and down based on speed, temperature, terrain, weight, and how the vehicle is driven, sometimes by 30% or more in either direction. Understanding what drives that swing makes range far less mysterious and a lot easier to plan around.

Where the official number comes from
